LeukerbadDestination LeukerbadLeukerbad is the largest SPA and wellness resort in the Alps. This mountain resort is situated in the Dala Valley in the canton Wallis and dates back to the 2nd century AD. The bathing tourism began in 1501 when a Roman Catholic cardinal acquired the rights to the thermal springs and invested in them. Nowadays, several public spa complexes invite guests from all over the world to relax in the therapeutic waters, which are rich in calcium, sulfur and gypsum. Furthermore special treatment and rehabilitation programs are offered. Summer as well as winter sports can be combined with a visit to the thermal baths and round-up a busy day.
Visitors can look forward to an enormous range of facilities to match every taste and pocket. Altogether, Leukerbad offers a choice of 30 thermal pools and with an impressive 3.9 million litres (over 1 million gallons) a day has the most voluminous reserves of thermal water in the whole of Europe. Six public baths act as a gateway to your personal swimming pleasure. Jacuzzis, steam baths, whirlpools and jets or highlights such as having breakfast in the water, bathing at full moon and aqua fit exercises add a superb finishing touch to the fun on offer: it all goes to show that swimming in Leukerbad is anything but boring. |
