Routes / Signposts All national and regional routes throughout this land of walking use the same signposting system. The national routes use one digit route numbers and the regional routes two digit numbers. The signposts won't let you down so that you can leave your route guide in your saddle bag. See above for an overview of all the national walking routes and stage destinations.
Route Guides A land of walking route guide is available for each route (in German and French) published by AT Verlag. The Via Alpina route guide is also available in English. The guide contains valuable information and is included in the price. Note: the route guides are not maps and simply contain sketches of the route. Maps for all stages of your journey can be obtained from SwissTrails as well as practical information about mountain railways etc.
Dificulty Categories
Our day stages are designed to include approx. 4-6 hours of walking each day. Routes with a more gentle elevation profile are recommended in particular: the Via Jacobi no. 5 and the Trans Swiss Trail no. 2. The Alpine Panorama trail no. 3 and Jura Crest trail no. 6 are of a medium difficulty rating. Walking times and altitude difference are greater in the case of the Via Alpina and Alpine Passes trail: these routes require good physical fitness and experience of hill walking.
