RORSCHACH - HEMBERG (URNÄSCH) 60 km - 38 miles
If you want to avoid the climb from Lake Constance to Heiden, you can load your bike on to the train and be at 800 meters a.s.l. in
a jiffy. The tour through Appenzell countryside is absolutely delightful, and this stretch to Hemberg affords glorious views of the
Mt Säntis Massif.
HEMBERG - LINTHAL (GLARUS) 68 km - 43 miles
Today you're in the Toggenburg and Glarner regions. Cycling over Ricken Pass shouldn't be any problem, and after that you're cycling along the River Linth valley which is as flat as a pancake. When you get into Canton Glarus you'll be continually encountering indications of what used to be a flourishing industry based on hydroelectric power.
LINTHAL - BECKENRIED 69 km - 43 miles
The Klausen Pass is one of the highest on the way to Lake Geneva. At an altitude of 1950 m it virtually reaches into the glacier
world; but should you not wish to reach this altitude using your own pedal power, the postal bus from Linthal will happily transport you and your bicycle. (Not included in package price). From the summit, the ensuing ride along the shores of Lake Lucerne is pure pleasure and a welcome respite. The car ferry from Gersau will take you across the lake to Beckenried.
BECKENRIED - SÖRENBERG 61 km - 38 miles
The first part of today's route along Lakes Alpnach and Sarnen is child's play compared with what is still to come ... At Giswil the climb starts in earnest: in only 10 kilometers will you gain an altitude difference of 1000 meters! Ufff! to reach the pass summit at Glaubenbielen (1611m). Naturally, the pass can also be conquered by postal bus. From the top it's downhill all the way to Sörenberg.
SÖRENBERG - THUN 61 km - 38 miles
Entlebuch and Emmental are regions of outstanding pre-alpine scenery with picturesque farmhouses, masses of flowers in window-boxes and gardens, and the farms look like those in a picture book of yesteryear! In Thun the cycle route reaches the Bernese Oberland.
THUN - GRUYÈRES (MORLON) 95 km - 59 miles
Plenty of up and down on the route today as it takes you into the country of the mountain rivers Sense and Saane. But you are continually accompanied on your ride by glorious views of the Bernese Alps. Halfway along, the charming elevated medieval town of
Fribourg with its Gothic-fronted houses beckons you to come take a closer look.
GRUYÈRES - AIGLE 66 km - 41 miles
This last stretch on the Alpine Panorama rou te runs down through the rich alpine pastures of La Gruyère, home of milk, cheese and double cream, and back up into rugged hills and Lake Hongrin, to reach the pass summit of Col des Mosses. Postal bus transportation is available. An exhilarating ride down into the mildness of the Rhône valley and on to the winegrowing town of Aigle is a fitting finish to this route.
