DAY TRIP BREMGARTEN - GEBENSTORF 25,3 km - 16 miles
The Reuss – Switzerland’s fourth biggest river – originates in the Gotthard massif and flows between the pretty towns of Bremgarten (worth a visit!) and Gebenstorf (near Brugg) through a largely untouched natural landscape. Many of the islands are protected conservation areas while the brisk flow of the river requires particular attention to obstacles such as boulders, bridge piers and trees overhanging the water. The rapids in the Gnadental valley are particularly exciting in terms of the landscape and paddling techniques. Half-way along the route, the town of Mellingen makes for a picturesque view and a welcome rest point.
