A Family Outing to Churwalden-Lenzerheide, a Perfect Holiday Region in Southeast Switzerland
by Nicole Williams, July 25, 2023
In the early summer of this year, we ventured out with my two kids aged 6 and 10 year and went to explore Churwalden, which turned out to be the perfect introduction to the Graubünden region in southeastern Switzerland.
We stayed at the Hotel Krone – an elegant and modern 3-Star Superior hotel that opened in late 2022, offering exceptional facilities and services for all types of travelers. I can say that it is the perfect accommodation option if you are traveling with children. Hotel Krone offers super comfortable family rooms, a playroom for kids and the restaurant has a special menu for your little ones. In terms of public transportation, the hotel is located right in front of the bus station. They also offer transport connections using the bus in the direction of Chur or Lenzerheide.
Above all, the hotel’s location makes it the perfect spot to explore the area. Within walking distance, a two-minute stroll will take you to the Pradaschier Adventure Mountain – a real adrenaline rush for the whole family. My daughter tried the zip line and she loved it – giving you a free-fall feeling, the zip line flies downhill at a speed of 110km per hour! We all got on the toboggan-run and it was by far, the best I’ve ever tried. It is the longest guided toboggan run in Europe, with more than three kilometers, making the thrill last much longer than usual.
Right next to the Pradaschier Adventure Mountain you will find the Heidbuel lift which is the starting gate to the hiking, biking and skiing area of Arosa Lenzerheide. We did the Panorama Trail on Heidbuel, which was led by fairies and had little clues for the kids. If they solve the riddle at the end, they receive a free Ice cream voucher at the restaurant Portal by the valley station. The hotel offers a special discounted price for Arosa-Lenzerheide cable car tickets.
The next day we were ready for our next adventure. We were part of the Lenzerheide Globi Trail, which was an easy 20-minutes bus transfer from our hotel, followed by the Tgantieni chair lift. Globi hosts an educational theme trail that has 13 posts along the way, including a barefoot path! This interactive trail encourages children to keep walking and enjoy nature in a fun way. You will also find lots of picnic areas with great mountain views. It was indeed a great trail for kids at any age!
As first-timers in the Graubünden region we can say that we loved it! I would totally recommend it for families with kids, hiking junkies, bikers and relaxers. It offer a bit of everything for everybody.
