Mt. Titlis

Take a Mt. Titlis excursion and experience the World’s first revolving cable car, called the Rotair. Must see attractions on Mt. Titlis also include the ice caves, Glacier Caves; the Titlis Cliff walk, a 100m long suspension bridge; the Titlis Glacier Park along with the Ice Flyer Chairlift, which gives the sensation of flying over the mountain. With good weather Mt. Titlis excursions are great for hiking and even taking a rowboat out at the lake located at the Trübsee stop.

A Mt Titlis excursion is a wonderful experience for people of all ages. The mountain has several restaurants and a snack bar, along with shops, which includes a chocolate shop, souvenir shop and photo booth, as well as a smuggler's adventure playground and trail for families.

Route to Mt. Titlis

From the Lucerne train station take the train to Engelberg. Upon arrival you can walk or take a bus the base station from where you then take the gondola and aerial cableway to Mt. Titlis.

Duration of excursion

We recommend allowing for anywhere between 5-8 hours (full day) for a Mt. Titlis excursion starting from Lucerne. It takes approximately 1 hour 30 minutes from Lucerne to the summit.

Timetable

Operates year-round minus a 2 week maintenance window around mid of November. Trains depart Lucerne for Engelberg once per hour, and all cable cars and chair lifts operate non-stop during good weather conditions.

Preparation

Make sure to keep up with the weather and dress in layers. Note that it can be windy. Make sure to bring a wind breaker and be prepared for sudden changes of weather. Bring sun glasses, a hat and gloves in the winter. Good walking shoes are recommended.

Mt. Titlis is located on the border between the Obwalden and Bern cantons above the village of Engelberg. It is 35 km/22 miles from Lucerne from where you can reach Engelberg in less than an hour by train.
