Travel Guide For Geneva Attractions & Activities

Jet D'Eau

The Jet d'Eau de Genève is the city's most visible landmark, projecting water 140 meters into the air. Originally designed as a relief valve for a hydraulic plant, it has evolved into a symbol of Geneva's ambition and energy. It is visible from almost anywhere along the lakefront and you can walk along the stone jetty to get a closer (and often misty) view of the fountain.

Cathédrale Saint-Pierre

Cathédrale Saint-Pierre in Genève stands at the highest point of the Old Town and features an eclectic mix of architectural styles, including a neoclassical facade and a Gothic interior. Visitors can climb the towers for a panoramic view of the city or explore the extensive archaeological site beneath the church.

United Nations Broken Chair Sculpture

The Broken Chair is a monumental wooden sculpture standing directly across from the Palais des Nations . It was created by artist Daniel Berset and co-founded by Paul Vermuelen and serves as a powerful reminder of the human cost of armed conflict and a call for international peace. Originally intended to stand for only three months during the signing of the Ottawa Treaty in 1997, its immense popularity and message led to it becoming a permanent landmark.

Red Cross Museum

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum in Geneva is a world-class humanitarian museum located directly across from the United Nations. Its permanent exhibition titled "The Humanitarian Adventure," explores three contemporary global challenges through immersive, architect-designed spaces: defending human dignity, restoring family links and reducing Natural Risks.

CERN

Located on the Franco-Swiss border just outside of Geneva, CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research) is the world's largest particle physics laboratory.  It serves as the home to the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), a 27-kilometer underground ring used to collide particles at nearly the speed of light to study the fundamental laws of the universe. The main visitor center, designed by architect Renzo Piano, features interactive exhibitions, hands-on labs, and science shows.

Opera House

The Grand Théâtre de Genève is Switzerland's largest opera house and a premier venue for opera, ballet, and concerts. Located at Place de Neuve, the historic 19th-century building is inspired by the Palais Garnier in Paris and features a 1,500-seat auditorium with a famous "starlit" ceiling.
