From here, a scenic 45-minute walk along the river brings you back to Bern. As you approach the center, you’ll reach the Marzili. In summer, this is the ideal place to try floating in the Aare – just remember to be cautious and use proper equipment such as a floating bag. In winter, this area is perfect for a quiet riverside walk. Nearby, you’ll also find one of the most popular ice cream spots in the city: Gelateria di Berna. Queueing might take 10–15 minutes in summer, but the special seasonal flavors and the quality of the ice cream make it well worth the wait. From there, continue to the Schwellenmätteli, which offers a unique perspective of the city from below. Then follow the path towards the Bear Park and continue your way up to the Rose Garden, providing a wonderful restaurant with panoramic views. Day 3: Take a day trip to Thun or the Bernese Oberland
Bern is perfectly located near Bernese Oberland and Thun, a lakeside town with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains, including the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau, just a 20 minutes rail journey away. In Thun, you can visit the historic castle, wander around the charming Old Town, take a lake cruise, or spend time by the lake and the Aare River. Swimming is very enjoyable in both.
